Nutrition is one of those fields in which a lot of people think they are “experts,” or at least have an opinion on the best way to lose weight, gain muscle, get healthier, ward off disease, feel more energized, etc. And in fact, they might know what works….for them! When it comes to your body, health, and performance, you want to talk to a trained professional. You wouldn’t get medical advice from someone who just reads a lot about medicine, would you? So, why would you get nutrition advice form someone who just “reads a lot about it?” And yes, this was an argument someone gave me last week at a BBQ about why his weight loss advice was superior to mine. Never mind the fact that said person might be getting their information from someone who also is not qualified to be giving nutrition advice. Don’t waste your time or money with “nutritionists”; see a licensed professional, a registered dietitian (RD).
